Every website has a unique domain name (or visible web address). Domain names allow your customers to find you easily whether they are next door or on the other side of the world

Domain names can be very important as they can represent a brand front for your business. That’s why it’s very important to take consideration when purchasing a domain – but don’t worry you can always change domain names as long it’s available for purchase. It’s sometimes helpful to shorten or abbreviate domains to make them easier to access and also reduce the chance of customers misspelling them.

Are you an Australian Business?

If you are an Australian business and want to buy a .com.au domain there are a few points to note:

• If you are registering the domain(s) for business use, you must provide a valid ABN
• The domain must be an abbreviation, or somewhat close representation of your actual business name
• There is a minimum 2-year registration period
• The domain must be at least 2 characters long
• It must contain only letters (a-z), numbers (0-9) and hyphens (-), or a combination of these
• It must start and end with a number or a letter and not a hyphen
• It must not contain hyphens in the third and fourth position (e.g. ab–cd.com.au).
